HORTICULTURAL DIVISION

All plants entered in this division must have been propagated by the grower or have been in his/her possession for at least three months. ALL PLANTS MUST BE IN BLOOM UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED WITHIN THE CLASS.  A limit of three entries per class per exhibitor.

Section I.  AFRICAN VIOLETS
Entries in this class must be named varieties.

  • Class 1.  Standard plants, any type blossom, green foliage
  • Class 2.  Standard plants, any type blossom, variegated foliage
  • Class 3.  Miniature Plants, any type blossom and foliage
  • Class 4.  Semi-miniature plants, any type blossom and foliage
  • Class 5.  Trailers, any type blossom and foliage
  • Class 6.  Species saintpaulia
  • Class 7.  Unusual Container, any type African violet planted within the container.
Section II.  GESNERIADS OTHER THAN AFRICAN VIOLETS
  • Class 8.  Any blooming or foliage gesneriad other than saintpaulia
Section III.  MISC.
This classes is unique to this show and are NOT included in the recommendations for AVSA Standard Shows. 
  • Class 9.  NO-NAME plant, any type where the variety is unknown.

DESIGN DIVISION

No limit of entries per person per class.  Plants do not have to be in exhibitors possession for the three month period as in horticulture division. 

Section IV.  INTERPRETIVE PLANT ARRANGEMENTS
These design arrangements include one or more entire African violet plants, still in the pot, and any props and objects needed for background drapery, etc.

  • Class 10.   Dancing the Night Away
    Use three or five blooming plants to reperesent a masquerade ball.
    African violet and other gesneriad plants may be used.
    Any props and drapery may be included.
  • Class 11Movie Star Glamour
    Come as Your Favorite Movie Star!
    ** Include the name of the actor or actress in your entry! **

  • Include one blooming African Violet plant and whatever props, posters, or objects needed.
  • Class 12I Know You!

  • Come as Your Favorite Violet Voice Member!
    ** Include the name of the member in your entry! **

    You may represent yourself or some other group member, using one African violet plant.
    You may use a printed graphic siggie, figures of pets, state maps or cutouts, etc.
    You may NOT use a photo of the member, or their actual name.
Section V.  INTERPRETIVE FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS
Only cut leaves or flowers of African violets and other cut plant material may be used.  No rooted material. 
  • Class 13.  Behind the Mask
    Include a mask as part of this arrangement. Use African violet blossoms only.
  • Class 14.  Solitary Stranger
    Use only one (1) African violet bloom or any gesneriad blossom!
  • Class 15Unveiling At Midnight
    Miniature arrangement less than 10 inches in any direction.  A clock must be included, involved, or indicated in this design in any way. Any gesneriad blossom may be used!

MISC. DIVISION
Section VII.  PHOTOGRAPHY
  • Class 16.  Any artistic photo of  African violet or other gesneriad plant.
    May or may not be computer altered.
Section VIII.  Just For Fun
  • Class 17Prettiest Leaf Contest
    Photo of one (1) African violet or other gesneriad leaf.
    You may use any background, lighting and location.
  • Class 18.  Dressed Up Gift
    Photo of an African violet or other gesneriad plant ready to give as a gift.
    Wrapping and presentation of any kind is accepted, as long as the finished gift could be easily carried to a party or the recipient's home.
